Description

Introduction:

This course is a basic introduction to the topics of data protection and mandatory complaints process as they apply in the dental setting. It is designed to increase awareness and to discuss core elements of the topics.

Data protection is a very specialist and discreet area of dental practice compliance. This course discusses the basic general requirements for dental practices. For more in-depth support and specific advice, it is recommended to speak with a qualified Data Protection Practitioner, who is usually but not always a solicitor specialising in this area.

Course Aim:

To introduce the basic elements of data protection, GDPS and a mandatory complaints process as they apply in a dental practice

Who Should Attend:

This course is designed to advise dental practices on their legal obligations in two different but connected compliance topics. The bulk of the course deals with data protection and the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). The final section of the course introduces the core principles of the mandatory Dental Council complaints process which each practice is required to establish.

However, data protection is a very specialist and discreet area of practice compliance. Should you require more in-depth support and advice I recommend you speak with a Data Protection Practitioner, this is usually but not always a solicitor who specialises in this area.

Recommended who should attend:

  • Dental Practice Owners/Clinical Directors
  • Dentists/Dental Associates/Dental Specialists
  • Dental Team Members – nurses, hygienists, therapists
  • Practice Managers / Administration and reception staff

Course Objectives:

  • Consider the legal background and individual obligations underpinning the data protection
  • List the basic elements of which each member of the dental team should have awareness
  • Manage situations to ensure that the dental practice is meeting its legal obligations and to know what to do in circumstances when things go wrong.

A record of attendance at this core CPD subject should be available as required by an inspector and maintained for at least 5 years.
